Sleep Later — Adventure Awaits
It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves. ~ Edmund Hillary
This past week a friend of mine and I spent the week in Western North Carolina. Our days were spent with hiking, laughing and eating ice cream. We had taken our daughters to a clogging camp at Mars Hill University. While the girls were at their day camp, we had from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm to explore the area. Explore we did.
We hiked 9 miles one day and saw four waterfalls in Brevard, North Carolina. Each day the anticipation of what was ahead was exhilarating, and each evening while listening to the girls talk about their day and watch their new dance moves, I was anxiously awaiting the next time my feet hit the hiking trail.
Today, I’m tired. We drove home late last night, and I’m longing for a view of the mountains again. I’m also reminded of how important spending time with nature is for the soul.
The lessons from my first book often seem to come back and remind me they are still there to be re-learned.
Here’s a snippet from Lesson 3 — Sleep Later, from “Wisdom From Others: 9 Life Lessons From My Dad”
“Sleep later. We have heeded Dad’s wisdom to sleep later. We know that there is always time in life to do chores, fold laundry, and wash dishes. And these chores must be done, but adventure must also be had. Adventure awaits.”
